 500 8" cement blocks for the part of the wall that will bear the weight of the material we dumped on the property. This is just the beginning, we'll need a bunch more of these.

Wall Construction

Part of our wall fell down during a big storm, and so we've begun to replace an 80 foot section of it with something stronger that will withstand the storms and the material we dumped to fill in the property. Eventually we will have to replace most of it, since it wasn't designed for what we need.

3rd Anniversary Conference, June 3-5 2011

The first night of the conference the electricity went out for about 20 minutes. I turned on the headlights on our truck and we just kept singing! By the time the preaching started the power had come back on. 68 people attended with some visiting from 2 churches in San Pedro.

The 2nd night we had 98 in attendance with a good sized group visiting from Iglesia Bautista Gracia Admirable in El Progreso.

Josué, Glenis, Yolanda, and Rosa received diplomas on Sunday morning for finishing discipeship courses.

Sunday afternoon we had service at the property that we bought for the church. It looks like a humble beginning, but God has great things planned for this church!

Prayer Letter May 2011

Last year in October the Lord blessed us with a property for the church. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible! Since then we have been busy working to get it ready to build a church building on it (some time in the future). It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but there was a very deep ditch in the middle of it. It was also lower in the back half then in the front. We knew when we bought it that we were going to have to invest in filling it in, and at present we have dumped 70 dump-truck loads of dirt on the property.

The next step will be to build a good wall around it. If we don’t, anything that we build on it will probably get vandalized or stolen. Just to give you an idea, we closed in an opening with cement blocks to prevent cows from coming in. It lasted about a month and then someone, probably kids, knocked it down. The property has a wall around it that was started by the previous owner, but the materials and workmanship are of very poor quality. Some of the blocks will literally crumble in your hand and others come loose with just a slight nudge. We knew this when we bought the property, but since we got it for about half of what it is worth we aren’t complaining!

We are going to have to replace at least half of the wall, as it is not strong enough to support the weight of the material that we dumped on the property. A few weeks ago during a big storm, a part of the wall collapsed that had already cracked under the weight of the material. We were praying for God’s leading and now it’s clear what the next step has to be! Please pray for God’s provision during this next phase.

We have seen several people saved as a direct answer to prayer. One of the men in the church prayed for his neighbors to be saved. Not long after that we began soul winning in that area and four of his neighbors have prayed to accept Christ so far! Praise the Lord! Several of the children that come to church have also prayed to accept Christ recently. Our six year old daughter Keren sat down with one of her friends and talked about other kids that had received Christ. Soon Keren was telling Angela that she needed to get saved too and Angela cried and prayed to accept Christ! If a six year old can be a soul winner, the rest of us don’t have any excuses. In March we went to the village of Buenos Aires and Cusuco National Park with the young people from Gethsemani Baptist Mission in San Pedro. Four people accepted Christ while handing out tracts in Buenos Aires! Like many other towns and villages here, Buenos Aires has no sound, Bible-believing church.

Our Mother’s day service went well with two adult first time visitors and several people who had not been out in awhile attending. Pray that the people here would continue growing and be faithful.

Here are some pictures from our Mother's day service. We had two first time visitors and a few come out who we hadn't seen in a while.

Part of the wall around the church property collapsed last week during a strong storm. Water entered the property and pooled in a corner where the wall was already weak. Some people would view this as a setback, but I see it as God's leading. We had been praying about what the next step should be and now it's obvious that we need to build a stronger wall on the lower half of the property where most of the weight is from the material we dumped to fill it in. We will have to remove about half of the wall, dig a deeper foundation and build something stronger and with better materials. All of this will cost something, so pray that God will provide for this need.

Las Crucitas

On Tuesday we went to Las Crucitas, a small village in the mountains above the town of Santa Barbara. We are planing on having a church camp there in April, so we went to see the area and make arrangements.

On Tuesday we went to Las Crucitas, a small village in the mountains above the town of Santa Barbara. We are planing on having a church camp there in April, so we went to see the area and make arrangements.

A shiny crystal rock formation inside of a cave we explored. They told us that in this cave people have found Mayan Indian artifacts.

This was as far into the cave as we could go without ropes.

Grinding coffee by hand is harder then it sounds! They grow a lot of coffee in the Santa Barbara area, and most people roast and grind their own coffee at home.

Her flowers fell out of her hands and she couldn't even pick them up herself. How do people expect her to hear and answer their prayers if she can't even do that?

"They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed... He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?"

Porque uso la Valera 1865

“El cielo y la tierra perecerán, mas mis palabras no perecerán.” (Mateo 24:35)

Dios nos ha dado una gran promesa en su palabra, que ha preservado las mismas palabras que dio por inspiración a los autores humanos de la Biblia. No ha preservado solamente las ideas o conceptos de la Biblia, pero las mismas palabras que fueron escritas. Las palabras que Dios habló por los profetas en el Antiguo Testamento y por los escritores del Nuevo Testamento, las tenemos hoy todavía porque “la palabra del Señor permanece perpetuamente.”

Si Dios ha preservado sus palabras como Cristo prometió, entonces cuando dos Biblias son dramáticamente diferentes en un pasaje, una de ellas tiene que ser correcta y la otra equivocada. Por ejemplo, 1 Pedro 2:2 en la Valera 1865 termina con la palabra “crezcáis”, pero la RV1960 añade las palabras “para salvación”, y así enseña que hay que crecer para salvación. Ahora, cuando el apóstol Pedro escribió su primera carta, o escribió “para salvación” ahí o no lo escribió. Ya que las palabras “para salvación” aquí contradicen la enseñanza de salvación por gracia al momento de recibir a Cristo, creo que la RV1960 está equivocada. Es imposible que las dos lecturas sean la palabra de Dios cuando se contradicen, y la lectura que contradice la sana doctrina tiene que ser la lectura incorrecta.

Después de usar la RV1960 por más de tres años, llegué a entender que no era lo que yo había pensado y comencé a buscar una alternativa. Una de las razones por que cambié a la Valera 1865 es por los problemas doctrinales en la RV1960 debidos a que esta Biblia usó en su Nuevo Testamento el Texto Crítico, un texto griego que fue corrompido por gnósticos y herejes (como Orígenes) en los primeros siglos de la iglesia. Algunos de estos cambios fueron introducidos sutilmente en la RV1960.

Lucas 1:28

Valera 1865: "Y entrando el ángel a donde estaba ella (María, la madre de Jesús), dijo: Tengas gozo, altamente favorecida, el Señor es contigo: bendita tú entre las mujeres."

RV1960: "Y entrando el ángel en donde ella (María) estaba, dijo: ¡Salve, muy favorecida! El Señor es contigo; bendita tú entre las mujeres."

¡Vaya! ¿Vamos a ganar a católicos con una Biblia que tiene a María como salvadora? El Diccionario de la Lengua Española dice que "salve" es una oración con que se saluda y ruega a la Virgen María. ¡Es un saludo católico a la "virgen" rogandole por auxilio! ¿Y a usted no le molesta que eso está en su Biblia? A mi si. María no tiene poder para salvar a nadie y los católicos necesitan entenderlo. Lastimosamente, de aquí las cosas solo van de mal en peor. Miremos a otro versículo.

Lucas 2:22

Valera1865: “Y como se cumplieron los días de la purificación de María conforme a la ley de Moisés, le trajeron a Jerusalem para presentarle al Señor,”

RV1960: “Y cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos, conforme a la ley de Moisés, le trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarle al Señor.”

En la Valera 1865 queda muy claro que la purificación era para María, la pecadora, y NO para Jesús, el Cordero “sin mancha, y sin contaminación.” Eso también está de acuerdo con la descripción del rito en Levítico 12. Sin embargo, la RV1960 tiene a Cristo como cualquier pecador que necesita “purificación”. ¡Según la RV1960, María puede “salvar” y Cristo necesitaba purificación! La RV1960 tiene todo al revés y apoya el catolicismo.

1 Pedro 2:2

Valera 1865: “Como niños recien nacidos, deseád ardientemente la leche no adulterada de la palabra, para que por ella crezcáis:"

RV1960: “desead, como niños recién nacidos la leche espiritual no adulterada, para que por ella crezcáis para salvación,"

Según este versículo en la RV1960 tenemos que crecer “para salvación”. ¿Cómo podemos predicar que la salvación es por gracia con una Biblia que lo contradice?

1 Pedro 3:18

Valera 1865: “Porque también Cristo padeció una vez por los pecados, el justo por los injustos, para llevarnos á Dios, mortificado á la verdad en la carne, pero vivificado por el Espíritu."

RV1960: “Porque también Cristo padeció una sola vez por los pecados, el justo por los injustos, para llevarnos a Dios, siendo a la verdad muerto en la carne, pero vivificado en espíritu.”

Algunos herejes de los primeros siglos negaban la resurrección corporal de Cristo (Arianos). Y en este versículo la RV1960 da la idea de que Cristo solo fue resucitado espiritualmente (como creen los Testigos de Jehová) y no en cuerpo físico. Cristo mismo refutó esta doctrina de demonios cuando dijo "Palpád, y ved; que el espíritu ni tiene carne ni huesos, como veis que yo tengo" (Lucas 24:39). Pero esa doctrina de una resurrección espiritual se encuentra en la Biblia RV1960.

2 Corintios 4:14

RV1865: “Estando ciertos que el que levantó al Señor Jesús, a nosotros también nos levantará por Jesús; y nos presentará con vosotros.”

RV1960: “sabiendo que el que resucitó al Señor Jesús, a nosotros también nos resucitará con Jesús, y nos presentará juntamente con vosotros.”

Aquí encontramos otro ataque en contra de la resurrección corporal de Cristo. Si Dios nos resucitará con Jesús como la RV1960 dice, entonces Cristo no se ha resucitado todavía. Peor aun, la primera parte dice que resucitó el Señor, y la segunda parte del versículo niega una resurrección corporal, entonces, ¡lo único que queda es una resurrección "espiritual"! Lo cual no es ninguna resurrección.

Todo creyente que ama la palabra de Dios debería de preguntarse, ¿por qué hicieron todos estos cambios? Según las Sociedades Bíblicas solo era para "actualizar el lenguaje". Sí lo actualizaron... ¡al lenguaje de la Biblia católica! Eso de "actualizar el lenguaje" no es nada más que un pretexto para corromper la Biblia Valera.

Me di cuenta también que la versión anterior a la RV1960, la de 1909, fue basada en textos corruptos y católicos (texto crítico) según sus propios revisores: “En diciembre (del 1907) el comité propuso que la base en griego fuera Westcott y Hort, y que sea consultado el texto de los revisores ingleses y de Nestle.” (ABS History, Essay #16, Text and Translation, European Languages, April 1967, por Eric M. North; pa. 36)

Decidí en diciembre del 2007 cambiar a la antigua Valera de 1865. Esta revisión ligera de la Biblia de Valera fue terminada en 1865, cuando Henry B. Pratt, el primer misionero evangélico a Colombia, junto con su amigo y ex-compañero en el seminario Ángel Mora, terminaron su trabajo. Resulta que esa Biblia es la más fiel a la Valera de 1602, al Texto Recibido y también a la Biblia inglesa King James.

Por su antigüedad, hay algunas palabras anticuadas en la 1865, pero eso no lo hace difícil de entender. Al contrario, le da un sabor distinto y lo eleva más arriba de la literatura moderna, colocandolo en un lugar único. Eso es lo que la palabra de Dios merece. De hecho, la Biblia fue escrita hace miles de años, no debe de leerse como un libro moderno.

Mi motivo en escribir eso ha sido: 1) de ayudar a cualquier persona que se encuentre buscando respuestas para estos temas, 2) de poner mi punto de vista en palabras para dar respuesta cuando me lo piden y 3) de despertar a los que, por algún motivo, no quieren reconocer los problemas que tienen las revisiones de 1960 y 1909.

Yo creo que hay muchos pastores y misioneros que están usando una versión de la Biblia sin los motivos correctos. Lo se porque yo era uno de ellos. Para descubrir cual es nuestro motivo, debemos hacernos algunas preguntas. 1) ¿Usa usted la 1960 porque es lo que las demás iglesias usan? 2) ¿La usa porque no ha invertido el tiempo para estudiar el tema de la Biblia española? 3) ¿La usa porque no quiere enfrentar las consecuencias de cambiar a otra versión? 4) ¿La usa por tradición (“es lo que siempre hemos usado”)? 5) ¿La usa porque tiene usted un prejuicio para ésta versión? Ninguno de estos motivos son correctos. Debemos tener una verdadera convicción de que la Biblia que usamos es la mejor. 1 Tesalonicenses 5:21 dice, “Examinádlo todo: retenéd lo que fuere bueno.” Mi decisión ha sido de usar la mejor Biblia, sean lo que sean las consecuencias. ¿Está usted dispuesto a hacer lo mismo?

13. Miran hasta muy tarde los “shows” de la tele.

14. Cuando tienen visitas, la tele sigue prendida.

15. Al momento de entrar en la sala se prende la tele.

16. La tele sigue prendida aunque no haya nadie en la sala.

17. Se sienten molestos cuando los visitantes vienen durante su programa favorito.

18. Se ríen con los pecados que una vez enviaron a nuestro Señor Jesús a la cruz.

19. Incluso, cuando se oyen blasfemias, siguen mirando y escuchando.

20. Sienten más placer al frente de la tele que con los creyentes.
