Dear Friends and Prayer Warriors,

Since we have been here in Cofradía, we have gone to preach the gospel and distribute gospel literature in at least eleven villages in the area. These villages range in size from just a few houses to 80 - 100 homes or more. Many of them require driving a good distance over rough mountain roads in order to reach them. These evangelistic trips are always a blessing and worthwhile though when we see how open and receptive the people usually are to the gospel. In May we went up to the Merendón mountains with a group from Gethsemane Baptist Mission from San Pedro and several people trusted Christ as their Savior in the small village of Peñitas Arriba.

We have gone to San Joaquín several times and the children always greet us enthusiastically. On one trip out in March we arrived to find about 50 of them still in class in a small, two room schoolhouse. As soon as class ended they all came running over and snatched up all of the tracts and John and Romans that we had left! When was the last time you saw that in the US?

The Merendón mountain range that surrounds us is home to 40,000 people living in more then 60 different communities. Most of these villages are only accessible with a 4x4 vehicle. We have made several trips up, and after asking other missionaries and pastors, we learned that there is not a single Baptist church in these villages. Catholicism is the the dominant religion, and of course the Pentecostals and even Jehovah’s false Witnesses are present.

I didn’t know all of this when we came to Cofradía four years ago. We are so close to these communities, it would seem like a crime to me to not do all that we can to try and reach them with the gospel. If we are going to go up on a regular basis and try to reach the villages that are farther out, we absolutely must have a sturdy, reliable 4x4 truck. These roads are known for being bad, and it only gets worse during rainy season. We are going to be setting aside 5% of our monthly support in a vehicle fund and I would encourage anyone reading to pray about helping financially. Considering what we could sell our truck for, I estimate that we will need at LEAST $5,000 more.

Work on the church property has been progressing well over the last few months. We are currently working on the front of the property and what will be the entrance. It is exciting to see that we are almost halfway there with the wall! We are grateful that God has used a number of churches and individuals, as well as the people here, to bring us this far in our “Nehemiah Project”! Please keep this need in prayer, because “the work is great and large” (Neh. 4:19) and we still have a long way to go.

Rosa Escobar, a lady that Rosy won to the Lord and discipled, is going to begin discipleing another lady who got saved at our Mother’s Day service and is eager to study the Bible. That is part of what discipleship is all about (2 Tim. 2:2).

In funnier news, the JWs have been telling people that I am an ex-JW that was disfellowshipped. Praise the Lord, I have never been associated with them in any way. I must have done something to get under their skin though, but I can’t imagine what.

Thanks for your prayers and support!

Mensaje: El Poder de la Música

El Poder de la Música es un mensaje que prediqué acerca de la música y sus efectos sobre nuestras vidas. También incluye mi testimonio personal acerca de lo que la música mundana hizo en mi vida.
